These are the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for macsmatrix.com, the Mac’s Matrix tool, and lessons with Jeff MacDonnell. By using the site or buying anything on it, you agree to them.

Mac’s Matrix

A free, capped version is open to anyone, no account needed. The full version is a one-time $99 purchase, plus sales tax, and is yours to keep: your access doesn’t expire, it isn’t a subscription, and it includes future updates. What you keep is a license to use it rather than ownership of the software — see Ownership & license below.

Lessons

Single lesson: $125. Package of 4: $450, and includes the full Matrix, yours to keep. Sales tax is added on the Matrix’s $99 only.
After purchase you’re emailed a Calendly link for each lesson to book your time. Before you buy, you can book a free 30-minute chat to check the schedule works, ask questions, and see if Jeff’s a good fit.
Package lessons must be used within three months of purchase. Lessons unused after that expire.
To move a lesson, give at least 48 hours’ notice. Your first late cancellation or missed lesson can be rescheduled once at no cost; after that, a lesson missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice is forfeited.
The same notice applies to Jeff. If a lesson is cancelled or missed on Jeff’s side, you can reschedule it. Jeff’s first late cancellation or missed lesson is rescheduled once at no cost, exactly as yours is. After that, rather than the lesson being forfeited, Jeff refunds it at its pro-rated price. A package of four is $450 including the full Matrix, which is $99 on its own and stays yours either way — so the lessons account for $351, and one package lesson refunds at $87.75. A single lesson refunds at the $125 you paid. You can still choose to reschedule instead of taking the refund.

Payment & refunds

All purchases are final and non-refundable — the Matrix, single lessons, and lesson packages. The one exception is the pro-rated refund owed when a lesson is cancelled late on Jeff’s side, described under Lessons above.

Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. If you think you were charged in error, contact us and we’ll look into it.

Ownership & license

Mac’s Matrix — the software, the text, the layouts and diagrams, the field guide and this site — is © Jeff MacDonnell. Buying the full version gives you a personal, non-transferable license to use it, for as long as you like. It does not transfer ownership of the software.

Use it for your own playing and your own teaching, on your own devices, as much as you want. Don’t copy, republish, resell, share or redistribute the app or its code, and don’t lift the code into something else. The same applies to the free version, which is open to anyone to use but not to republish.

What we don’t claim is music theory itself. Modes, chord construction, common tones and the rest belong to nobody, this site included. Teach what you learn here, freely — that is what it is for. What is ours is this particular expression of it: the code, the words and the design.

Accounts

Your account is for your own use — don’t share your login. Buying a lesson package creates an account for you (or adds to your existing one) using the email you paid with. We may suspend accounts used to get around these terms.

Your data, and who handles it

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t run advertising trackers. We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and doesn’t identify you. We use these services to run the site, each under its own privacy policy:

Memberstack — accounts and login (your email).
Stripe — payments and receipts.
Calendly — lesson booking (the details you enter when booking).
Resend — sends our emails: booking links and welcome messages (your email address).
Cloudflare — hosting; page-visit counts (the page, the site you came from, your browser and country); stores the songs and lessons you save in the Matrix, tied to your account so they follow you between devices; and delivers mail sent to our support address.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest revision. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
